New Single: Dead by Meshes of the Afternoon

A new song by Meshes of the Afternoon. It will also be the last song by the troubled group. "We've lost our emotional and creative integrity," said synth bassist Art Cancer, brother of lead singer Cacey Cancer. Ronnie Bevins of BJOB.com reported that Cacey has been missing for weeks, but the band doesn't appear to give a shit. "The last time I saw [Cacey] he was completely wasted and punching his car, so I went inside before the cops came." Says his brother.

New Valentine's Day Song by Piratehouse

Love, the Piratehouse boys

And Check Out the Valentine's Day Songs form 2012!

Or This One From 2011!

This writer was somewhat perplexed when, after 22 years (well really only since sophomore year of college), the triumphal comeback for shoegaze pioneers My Bloody Valentine began with a whimper and not an “Only Shallow.” This Valentine’s Day the PirateHouse Boys (featuring PH Allstars Price Mason, Riley Skruggs and Tim Byrd) took a page out of the mbv playbook and then called an audible.

The Pirate House boys “found now” and then took it to later. Gone are the drums and beats characteristic of past PH tracks, Now the boys let the bell-ringing strums and thumps anchor the rhythm of this beautiful tune. But that’s shallow considering the breadth of the influence the Bloodiest of Valentine’s has had on these boys. The chords ebb into a melody but then flow into new extra-terrestrial terrain: for a bar we think there’s gravity but then we're lifted into the upper atmosphere of the music.

Fortunately the air is thick, thick, thick with synths, licks, and vox. These elements drift atop the writhing chord changes like the aftermath of the parade-queen’s float being pushed off the dock and into the high-tide bay. Each pre-chorus, the beautiful debris pulls out to see only to be crashed into the sea-worn deck of our ears and then spray above us as we, with fists clenched into the air, scream “I just wanna Hang Around!”

This track shows an exciting new direct for a group of musicians who, very much unlike My Bloody Valentine, are ceaseless in their stream of new unprecedented material. So this Valentine’s Day, if you feel like just hangin around with your lady or gentleman make it the most epic hangout with the PirateHouse Boys’ “Alive (Hang Around with You).”

Breakfast Champion 2 "A Lady in the Street but a Freak...In My Shed"

A year ago on Halloween the world was introduced to one of the most frightening personas in the history of Pop music--Breakfast Champion.  Armed with sexy beats, sharp guitar riffs, and the voice of a predator, BFC stole our hearts and cooked them right in front of us.  The idea of horror-pop isn't new, but never before had we heard it played with such conviction, as if the criminal acts played out in the lyrics weren't just fiction.  With the added bonus of visuals from Tobe Hooper's underrated slasher flick The Funhouse, "Why Don't You Stay the Night So I Can Have You for Breakfast"became a game changer.

This year Breakfast Champion gives us twice the horror as last year's installment.  "A Lady in the Street but a Freak...In My Shed" cuts us deeper with more sex and more violence, and balances the frights with catchier choruses and more streamlined production.  The music once again takes us to an imaginary place where John Carpenter is the biggest pop star in the world and his band consists of members from the Bad Seeds and the Cure.  Strung together like a horror movie soundtrack, the songs complement the music video swimmingly, a combination of images from the 80's films The Prowler and Demons.  Stick around for the whole thing and you'll be telling yourself that you've just seen the best 30-minute music video since the Dirty Projectors released "Hi Custodian" earlier this year.  But it's better than that.  With ALITSBAFIMS Breakfast Champion have made something that instantly screams CULT CLASSIC.  Doing that is no easy feat, but yet again BFC has proven that the best way to reach fans is to go straight for the heart.

Rain Man "Rain Man"

We were hitting it off, I was hitting the road
Saw the sky turn red, start raining toads
Was it obvious to you?
Because it was obvious to me

Maybe it was the war, maybe it was foretold
Maybe it was the heart of mankind turned cold
I saw Hell opening up
Oh well, I guess the time has come

Rain Man rain down on me
For the Devil has come for me

El Lonely Boy "Stuck"

Just as promised, Piratehouse today delivers a reward to all of our loyal fans who helped us break the record for most plays in 24 hours. We reached our goal of 100 plays last night, and to celebrate we give you a downer track from Baby's side project El Lonely Boy, who hasn't turned up on the pages of this blog since 2010 with the hip-hop instrumental "Bawlin". This is a very different song than "Bawlin". Enjoy.

TigerBowtie "Satiable"

Tiger Bowtie returns! This time with 100% more sanity, T-Bow takes you on a slippery ride through downtown Loveburg, AL, for anyone wishing upon a star that your special someone would just take stuff as prescribed. So take a load off, Fanny...it's 'Satiable'.

Baby's "Hold On Love"

Following the success of Baby's "Curious" dream-pop comeback, the band returns with their second single "Hold On Love".  Ronnie Bevins of PENguin Magazine says:

"Baby's continue to amaze with their shimmering guitar and hushed vocals.  If these couple of songs point to the final product of Make Us Dream, then the music world might have found their EPOY (EP of the year) early this year.  'Hold On Love' is more of the same from this band: beautiful hooks drawn out over many minutes that sit with you for days and keep you returning to their blog www.piratehouserecords.blogspot.com) to play it again (and again).  These young Birmingham boys are really on a roll and I love watching 'em (and listening to 'em)."

Baby's "Curious"

Piratehouse Records releases the fist single from the upcoming Baby's EP Make Us Dream.  MUD follows last year's Baby's So Smoosh which received some buzz for it's hooky teen dream-pop.  "The new EP features darker tones and subtler production," says Baby's guitarist Price Mason.  "It's not necessarily representative of our current lives, but the decision to move in a moodier direction was just what we were feeling at the time.  In a way we're trapped by our freedom."  The new EP features sounds that are mostly influenced by 90's dream pop bands, such as Luna and Slowdive, and should be out later this year,
